Tantalum Foil and Strip Description

Tantalum appears as a shiny and silvery metal in its soft and pure form. The metal is corrosion resistant and is bound to chemical attack below 150℃. This element is abundantly found in nature just like the uranium. Tantalum is said to be an excellent conductor of heat & electricity. It has a high melting point of about 3017°C and a boiling point of about 5458°C. Apart from the hydrochloric acid, tantlum shows excellent resistance to all acids in normal temperature. It usually appears in the +5 oxidation state coming in its compounds. It is known to be as one of the inert chemical elements found on the earth.

Tantalum is very ductile and can be readily cold formed due to a low work hardening rate. Welding can be accomplished via resistance, TIG, or electron beam methods, with care taken to protect the weld and heat affected zone from air during welding. Because of the potential for hydrogen embrittlement, Tantalum can not be used for extended service in air or other oxidizing atmospheres above 260℃/500℉ unless a protective inert atmosphere or vacuum is provided.

SSC specializes in producing custom compositions for commercial and research applications and for new proprietary technologies. Materials are produced using crystallization, solid state and other ultra high purification processes such as sublimation. Tailor-made tantalum alloy materials, such as tantalum tungsten alloy, tantalum niobium alloy are also available at SSC.

We also produce tantalum as rod, pellets, powder, pieces, disc, granules, wire, and in compound forms, such as oxide. Other shapes are available by request.
